Channel Cat Sessions - Call for Talent
Introduction
MetroLINK is seeking qualifications from local and regional solo musical performers interested in participating in a small series of pop-up live music performances aboard the Channel Cat passenger ferryboats during the Summer 2026 season.
The purpose of this initiative is to enhance the passenger experience and celebrate local talent through low-key, high-quality performances integrated into the existing ferry service.
Project Overview
Selected performers will provide live, solo acoustic or low-amplification musical performances during regularly scheduled passenger ferry trips. Key characteristics:
- Performances are supplemental to ferry operations, not ticketed events
- Music must be appropriate for a public, family-friendly environment
- Performances will occur while the ferry is in service
MetroLINK anticipates selecting approximately three (3) performers, each to perform two (2) scheduled pop-up concerts during the summer season.
Performance Environment & Constraints
Performers should carefully review the following conditions:
- Solo acts only (no bands, duos, or ensembles)
- Acoustic instruments or battery-powered amplification only
- No external power access will be provided
- Performers must be able to perform while seated and in a limited space
- Performances must not impede passenger movement, crew duties, or safety procedures
- All performances must comply with crew instructions at all times
This Call for Talent prioritizes performers who are adaptable, professional, and comfortable in unconventional venues.
Desired Performer Qualities
MetroLINK is especially interested in performers who demonstrate:
- Strong musical quality in a solo setting
- Experience performing in public or nontraditional spaces
- Ability to engage audiences respectfully without disrupting operations
- Repertoire suitable for a diverse, all-ages audience
- Local or regional connection to the Quad Cities
All musical genres will be considered.
Scope of Services
Each selected performer may be asked to provide:
- Two (2) performances of approximately two (2) hours each
- Coordination with agency staff regarding date, time, and boarding logistics
- Arrival sufficiently in advance for boarding and setup
- Compliance with all agency safety and conduct requirements
Compensation
Selected performers will receive a flat stipend for their performance.
The stipend is intended to:
- Compensate the performer for preparation and performance time
- Recognize the professional nature of the engagement
MetroLINK anticipates a stipend in the range of $300 per performance, subject to final budget approval.
